Three hypoxia falls and a major leg injury – the hellish life of Devil’s Corner

At the end of June at Launceston, three-year old Devil’s Corner won his race, but collapsed of hypoxia in the catching pen. Stewards’ reports reveal an unhappy history for a dog that was forced to run in 87 races. Devil’s Corner’s previous hypoxia collapse happened a few weeks earlier at Devonport. The Pink Diamond draws red blood on deadly tracks

The Pink Diamond series in Victoria was the latest racing scheme to get participants excited about money and leave a trail of injured greyhounds. The inaugural series offered $830,000 in prize money – with a new focus on breeders – and was held during June at the provincial tracks of Warragul, Ballarat, Shepparton and Geelong. The Dog-lovers of Dubbo see 10 greyhound “mates” injured

Dubbo entertainment: watching a dog running on a broken leg Under the sign saying “We love our dogs”, ten greyhounds suffered injuries at one Dubbo race meeting held on 3 July 2021. Injuries ranged from cramping to a broken ankle. Crown Sally gives up as stewards question her racing frequency

Two-year old Crown Sally was running in Race 1 at Sale VIC on 27 June 2021. Entering the home straight, the stewards’ report states that she “pulled up” and “failed to finish the race.” The on-track vet could find no injury. Stewards, however, “discussed the frequency of racing of Crown Sally with the trainer”.
