By deleting or altering race videos that show the suffering of greyhounds, Greyhound Racing NSW accepts that the public does not accept the realities of dog racing.
On August 25, during Race 6 at Richmond, NSW, numerous dogs collided at the end of the back straight.
Three dogs were hurt when they fell: Nala Bear (chest and hip injury), Funky Freak (groin injury), and Lady Syrene (serious wrist ligaments injury).
Another greyhound, Blue Diamonds, leapt into the air to try and get away from them. However, Diamonds tripped and repeatedly somersaulted into the fence.
We have seen a copy of the race video despite the GRNSW website blocking access.
You can see why image manipulators in the sector might conceal upsetting recordings. But unhappily, most people would not accept this treatment of dogs.
The on-track veterinarian stated that Blue Diamonds had “no visible injury.” However, a former racing veterinarian warned us that many wounds received in a fall aren’t obvious or easy to notice immediately after a race, especially internal injuries. Due to the theory that when greyhounds race, their levels of the hormones associated with fear, flight, and endorphins surge. These hormones help to mask any wounds that are not visible.
A dog that has taken a significant fall must undergo another vet check before being allowed to race again. Consider the number of injuries that the vet is not reporting.
GRNSW has gotten into the habit of covering up the facts regarding greyhound racing by erasing race videos or manipulating race incidents. We are keeping an eye on how they are handling racing videos here.
Another recent video that GRNSW was hiding showed the death of two-year-old Mr Recorder. He collapsed at a turn in Richmond on August 24. Since then, the record of his “comminuted humeral fracture” has been altered.
People are waking up… The government can’t hold up this failing industry forever
