On Sunday 24th July, Australians will gather in their hundreds to oppose the animal cruelty and senseless waste of life that is the greyhound racing industry.
The event is being held in the country’s capital cities and in some regional areas. Details of the event locations can be found at:

Within hours of being posted, hundreds of people registered to attend the events.
“Last February, Australians gathered to call for a shutdown of the greyhound racing industry, in what is the largest rally of its kind ever to be held in Australia.”
“It is clear that this industry has lost its social licence,” said Dr Eleonora Gullone, founder of the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds and Animal Justice Party Ban Greyhound Racing campaign manager.
“The Baird government has been applauded nationwide for its decision to ban greyhound racing. However, the risk is now that people will move their cruelty to other states. We need to end it Australia wide.”
“Australians don’t support an industry that kills more dogs than it rehomes for the sake of gambling or a hobby. It has proven to be an industry with a culture of cruelty that is resistant to change.”
“It is also an industry where the lives of dogs are treated as mere money making ‘products’ where little regard is given to their sentience and capacity for suffering.”
“As a researcher in aggression and violence, and an author of many published works examining the link between deliberate animal cruelty and human aggression, I am concerned that governments continue to support an industry that is rife with deliberate animal cruelty, particularly live baiting.”
“It is also an industry which has been documented as being at the end of its economic life cycle – with declining revenue and employment capability.”
“The Baird government has not only made a humane decision that is in line with the NSW, and indeed the Australian community, it has also made an economically responsible decision.”
The March for the Murdered Million is held in honour of all the greyhounds bred, used and discarded by the racing industry. It will be held in all major Australian cities.
