More horrendous greyhound treadmill deaths

A “veteran of the industry” was found guilty of animal cruelty charges after two greyhounds were found dead on a training treadmill.

The Bendigo Magistrates Court heard how the two dogs were found “dangling lifelessly by their leads” after she forgot about them while training the other 60 dogs on her property.

She would often leave dogs unsupervised that were experienced on treadmills.

The Greyhound Racing Victoria chief vet said the dogs likely died from heatstroke and over-exertion. The treadmill was on a balcony.

Veteran trainer Beverley Pell was named on the Bendigo Magistrates Court list for 2 March 2026.

Last month we heard how Baba Bear died after being tethered to a human treadmill at “extreme tension”, left unattended, and suffered “asphyxiation or strangulation”.

Owner Graham James in Victoria had sent him to race in South Australia with Shaun Ciavarella.
