Greyhound racing in Queensland is deadly, wasteful and costly.

This year so far, 19 greyhounds have died after being injured on Queensland tracks. The Q track at Ipswich, and the Rockhampton track in central Queensland, now lead the country in off-track deaths – greyhounds injured while racing, and killed in the days after.

The Queensland Government spends millions of dollars in public money every year on greyhound racing. In this year’s 26/27 state budget, the government has allocated $200 million for racing infrastructure, which will include greyhound tracks. The Q cost at least $44 million in public money and is now one of the least safe tracks in the country. While everyday people foot the bill, the gambling companies are making big profits off the backs of dead and injured greyhounds.  

We know that the majority of Queenslanders want to see the end of greyhound racing. Polling commissioned by our friends at GREY2K USA Worldwide shows that 66% of Queenslanders support ending greyhound racing. You can see the polling data here. 

It is time that Queensland followed New Zealand and the ACT and ban greyhound racing.
