Greyhounds bred into the racing industry are directed down many different paths, but in nearly all cases, they are eventually discarded. Why?
Follow the flow chart and see that once greyhounds are no longer financially valuable to their owners, they will be abandoned. Some greyhounds are dumped almost immediately, while others will be unwanted at a later stage of their life cycle. Some greyhounds will have their lives cut short and end up in a freezer after being killed at the race-track.
Once greyhounds are discarded, there is uncertainty regarding where they will end up. Some will live happily as family pets, while many others will be adopted, but struggle with ongoing pain and anxiousness from their earlier lives. Unfortunately, there are still a larger number of greyhounds that don’t find a happy forever home and either die younger that necessary, or lead a miserable existence.
