Bing Lee cancels sponsorship of big race

The Greyhound Recorder was bragging that “big business” was keen to be part of the “thriving” racing scene at Taree in NSW.

The local Bing Lee store was supporting the April 2026 Taree Cup Carnival and had named the Bing Lee Silver Bullet Final race.

However, once the Bing Lee head office heard about the support, and was contacted by greyhound advocates, they quickly cancelled the sponsorship.

They joined the long list of major businesses that have rejected any association with greyhound racing: https://greyhoundcoalition.com/media-resources/stopping-sponsors/#:~:text=The%20passion%20and%20determination%20shown%20by%20CPG,greyhound%20racing%20and%20willing%20to%20say%20so.

The Silver Bullet Final was then named after the local bowlo.

Bing Lee must have heard about the cruelty and abuse that is inherent in greyhound racing.

They probably also checked the well-documented, disturbing history of the Taree racetrack.

Rebuilt for $6m, the track was promoted as a “super track” and “centre of excellence”, and the safest track in NSW.

Until the horrific deaths of two dogs showed that the track was built without a safety rail.

The track remains one of the deadliest and unsafe in NSW.  For Jan-Mar 2026, Taree recorded the most Category D injuries in NSW – those major injuries with the longest stand-down time, 28-90 days.

Bing Lee quickly realised it couldn’t be a part of this animal abuse.
