Some suggestions for your submission
- 11 deaths: So far in 2025, 11 greyhounds have been killed on WA racetracks.
- 495 injuries: So far in 2025, there have been 495 injuries on WA tracks.
- Rehoming crisis due to overbreeding: Rehoming groups are overwhelmed due to the number of dogs bred and discarded by the industry each year.
- Lack of oversight and transparency: There is no independent regulator of the WA greyhound racing industry.
- Tasmania and New Zealand are phasing out greyhound racing: Earlier this year, Tasmania announced that it will be phasing out greyhound racing. New Zealand made a similar commitment late last year. It’s time for WA to do the right thing, and follow these jurisdictions in ending greyhound racing.
- Most Australians oppose greyhound racing: We know that the majority of people in Australia don’t support greyhound racing. An EMRS poll found that 74 percent of Tasmanians backed the government’s decision to phase out greyhound racing.
- Waste of taxpayer funding: The WA greyhound racing sector receives millions of dollars in taxpayer funding every year, money that should be going to healthcare, schools and housing.
- It’s the gambling companies that are profiting: Companies like Sportsbet, Ladbrokes and Tabcorp all make enormous profits from people betting on greyhound racing.
- Political parties are influenced by industry donations: Gambling companies make big donations to the major political parties. This year, Sportsbet has donated $1650 to WA Labor. The gambling peak body ‘Responsible Wagering’ has donated $13,750 to the Labor-affiliated Perth Trades Hall.

Thank you for taking action on behalf of the thousands of greyhounds who suffer at the hands of the Australian greyhound racing industry every year.
This is Jeffrey, his story features on our Tales of Hope page. Jeffrey's story is a familiar one of cruelty and neglect.
His wonderful rescuer Alee Li Gibbs says "Everyone needs to fight for these dogs. My three have brought me nothing but happiness. Justice needs to be served for Jeffrey and every other greyhound out there."
