While GRV Chair Peita Duncan was saying she would “stand side by side with our peers in Tasmania” on the proposed racing ban, Matchbox Flame was killed at Shepparton.
Six days earlier, Aston Amisha and Mickey Mouse were killed at Horsham.
With 29 on-track racing deaths in 2025, Victoria is by far the deadliest state in Australia.
At least 21 more greyhounds suffered serious racing injuries and died away from the tracks.
Ignoring the hard facts
Not surprisingly, Duncan ignores these hard facts in her open letter of support to Tasmanian greyhound racing.
She also fails to mention the more than 600 greyhounds that owners and trainers admitted died in Victoria in FY23/24.
She does, however, use paid-research data whose methodology has been discredited by those such as economist Saul Eslake and the Tasmanian Treasury.
Tasmanian premier Rockcliff has said: “The greyhound racing industry is in decline. It’s at a crossroads and it no longer meets community expectations.”

To remind Duncan of the brutal toll of her gambling business – and why greyhound racing has lost its social licence – here are the names of the dogs that died on her tracks this year. She won’t be standing side by side with them.
