It was the third time unlucky for poor Jilliby Skippy, who now holds the sad honour of being the youngest dog to die on an Australian track this year. He was just a baby.
Skippy was 18 months old, the sixth greyhound to be brutally killed at Ladbrokes Gardens this year, and the 60th to die in NSW.
Jilliby Skippy collided with another dog on the often dangerous first turn, fell heavily and did not finish.
The stewards’ report states he suffered a compound and comminuted fracture of his foreleg. He must have screamed in pain. Such fractures are usually seen as a result of being hit by a car or being shot. The on-track vet euthanased him.
Jilliby Skippy only ran 3 races, was never placed, and never won any prize money, so was expendable. The race footage must have been harrowing to watch, but typically GRNSW has removed the video of Jilliby Skippy’s tragic fall because it’s bad PR for the dog-killing industry.
The Hunter region has been particularly lethal for greyhounds this year. On-track deaths have more than doubled compared with last year.
Of course, there’s no mention of the loss of Jilliby Skippy from the industry, and no remorse.

About CPG
A ban on greyhound racing is a priority for the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds. We fight to end racing greyhounds’ misery up until that time. Our initiatives aim to sway public opinion and are directed at state governments.
CPG reports greyhound track fatalities and injuries in print, radio, and television. We want to hold the business and state governments accountable for not doing enough to save greyhounds from needless suffering and demise.
Bloody disgusting, if an Olympian (human) suffered a fracture do we euthanise him or her on the track ??? no why ? because we place a value on our life !
Make no mistake dog and horse racing is BRUTAL !
