Two greyhounds were killed after both falling in the same race and a further two greyhounds were killed when they fell in the catching pen and beyond. The much trumpeted Q track complex in Queensland continued to kill greyhounds as did Western Australian tracks.

The track deaths started right on cue on July 1 at Taree NSW when four year old Wonder Kid collided with others after race 2 in the catching pen. He suffered a compound fracture of his off side foreleg as well as a suspected cervical spine fracture and was killed by the industry vet soon after. It was his 84^th race. This race meet was beset by “incidents” as detailed in the stewards report on the day.

In race 3 a greyhound leapt over the catching pen fence and sustained a spike wound to the foot. In race 6 a greyhound escaped from its trainer on the way to being boxed. In race 8 a greyhound slipped under the catching pen gate and chased the lure. On vet examination the greyhound was found to be suffering post race ataxia, a neurological condition presenting as unsteady gait brought on by the exertion of racing. Taree track is NSW’s supposedly “safest” track. It isn’t really, but GRNSW simply changed the criteria in order to meet the definition of “minimum standards”.

Geelong track in Victoria was the scene of not one but two fatalities in the same race on July 7. On a wet looking sand track, three year old Just Telling fell in the back straight and Paw Shervington, just a puppy of 20 months, then fell over him. The race video shows their falls. Just Telling fractured his left radius and ulna and Paw Shervington fractured his right radius and ulna. Both greyhounds were killed by the on track vet after the race. Just Telling had fractured his shoulder racing in January 2026 but now his luck had run out. The track was inspected by stewards after this catastrophic incident and it was deemed “suitable for racing”. Paw Shervington was owned by a well known racing industry identity who breeds greyhounds on an industrial scale and whose father was fined and suspended for exporting greyhounds to China, a country with no welfare regulations.

On July 14 Goldstar Buzz, not yet two, was checked in the back straight turn and fell in race 3 at Q1 Lakeside in Queensland. His fall has been edited out of the race video and his name does not appear in the race results published by Racing Queensland. The stewards report states he suffered an “off side fore injury”. Goldstar Buzz had a “career” that lasted only two months. Another greyhound, Hara’s Hazel suffered an “off side hind injury” in race 8 and was given a 90 day standdown period.

Three year old Canya Succeed actually came second in race 8 at Mandurah WA on July 23 before she escaped under the catching pen gate and ran onto the infield, where she fell heavily and broke her neck. She earned her trainer just over $500 by running 2^nd and was killed by the on course vet soon after. Canya Succeed paid the price for unsafe track equipment.

Still in WA, on July 27, two year old Scelzi was running in race 7 at Northam track when he collided with another greyhound who fell and subsequently fell himself. on the first turn. He hit the outside running rail. The race video has been deleted by Racing and Wagering Western Australia but CPG has viewed the footage. In it, Scelzi falls and somersaults in the air then smashes into the fence. Scelzi suffered a right radius and ulna fracture and was killed by the industry vet at the track. Scelzi had been forced to race 37 times.

Six more greyhounds died as a result of injuries sustained on Queensland tracks in July.

Three year old Daintree Blinder fractured his near side hock in race 7 at Q1 Lakeside on July 1^st . He was given a 90 day standdown period but his syndicate decided he wasn’t worth saving. He is now listed as deceased.

Canya Hold On, two, “injured” her off side hind in race 9 at Rockhampton on July 12. She is now listed as deceased despite a 90 day standdown.

On July 14 at Townsville track, three greyhounds suffered fractured legs. All were given 90 day stand down periods. Two are now listed as “deceased”. Two year old Tommy’s Whisky “injured” his hind leg ( in reality “fractured”) at the end of race 4. Then in race 10 three year old Zina Cortez “injured” her foreleg (again fractured). Both Tommy’s Whisky and Zina Cortez have since been listed as “deceased”.

Still at Townsville on July 28 Lemon Slice, three, was dragged down and fell at the first turn in race 9. She had fractured her wrist (or “injured” it according to the stewards report). She “failed to finish”. Days after being given a 90 day stand down she is now listed as “deceased”.

At Q2 Parklands, the “jewel in the crown” of Queensland’s greyhound racing industry, on July 30, four year old Miss Darkside fell and “injured” her shoulder. She is now listed as “deceased”.

Victoria, where greyhound racing has killed 20 greyhounds just at the track so far in 2026 and at least 20 greyhounds in the days following their race injuries, killed another young greyhound who was injured at Shepparton on July 30. Three year old Mcinally who ran last in race 7 was found after his race to have a left wrist fracture as well as a left tendon flexor injury. A few days later he was updated in the database as “deceased”. Mcinally was one of five in his litter whelped in March 2023. The other four pups weren’t even named.
