The NSW Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission has provided NSW Parliament with data on all the greyhounds that died in FY25/26.

These deaths were reported by racing participants.

The data reveals a disturbing picture of greyhounds dying from racing, accidents, and injury. Many have been killed due to “behaviour” issues – which may have been caused by their experience in the racing industry.

54 dogs died due to “race track injury”.

Many greyhounds that died were “unnamed” – they were too young or slow to race.

The data raises numerous questions and CPG continues to analyse the numbers and the stories behind each death. These were individual dogs, that were bred to be gambled on, and died for gambling.

Update: in the latest GWIC quarterly reports, the FY26 total increased to 1,020 deaths.
