Lethal Tracks 2022

Welcome to Lethal Tracks 2022, the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds’ third annual track-related deaths and injuries report.

Lethal Tracks offers the only national record of the dogs that suffer injuries and are killed on Australian racetracks. On average, in 2022, racing killed four dogs every week and injured 29 every day. Some of the dogs are killed at the track and many more are removed with serious injuries and killed later.

CPG tries wherever possible to acknowledge the names and the tragic last moments of the dogs that are killed racing. But many of the state racing bodies won’t release this information. In some cases freedom of information requests were required to learn the number of dogs killed.

And complicit state governments continue to pour millions of taxpayer dollars into this cruel industry. Despite a recent survey commissioned by GREY2K USA Worldwide and CPG showing that 69% of Australians oppose taxpayer funding of greyhound racing.
