I am Warrnambool… I am dead

The latest death on the Warrnambool track makes it one of Australia’s deadliest in 2024.

On 28 March two-year-old Blinkin’ Blue fell at the first turn and suffered “injuries to the right achilles tendon, right fibula and right medial tibial periostitis”, and was killed by the industry vet.

Three dogs have now died and more than 60 been injured while racing there in 2024.

The Warrnambool Greyhound Racing Club features on the Warrnambool tourism website, whose slogan is “I am Warrnambool”.

The club is supposed to have a “family friendly environment and…makes the perfect place to get a group together and enjoy a night at the races.”

Since 2020 nineteen dogs have been killed on the track and more than 1,000 have been injured. Other injured dogs have been killed away from the track.

The  Warrnambool Cup on 1 May is described as a “must-see” sporting event, offering a “cracking Wednesday night of greyhound racing.”

If you want to hear the cracking of greyhound bones, see dogs harmed, and support gambling addiction, you know where to go.

Warrnambool is in the state electorate of South-West Coast, MP is Roma Britnell (Liberal),  [email protected]
