Sandown Cup Protest

Join CPG in taking a stand for greyhounds at the Sportsbet Sandown Cup Final!

The Sandown Cup is one of the Victorian greyhound racing industry’s main events, with $270,500 in prize money available to participants.

So far this year, 38 greyhounds have been killed racing on Victorian tracks with more than 1,300 dogs injured. Serious injuries including fractures, torn muscles and dislocations are 50% more than for the same period last year.

The shameful Sandown track is located in premier Daniel Andrews’ electorate. He, along with other politicians, will be invited to attend the event.

We will have a number of guest speakers including from a Victorian greyhound rescue and the Animal Justice Party.

Please be sure to let people know about this event to help us get the best turnout possible. Below are links to an event invitation on facebook and also to a poster that you can download and print. That’s followed by FAQs and a Code of Conduct. Hope we see you there!

Please contact [email protected] or post a comment in the facebook event if you have any questions we haven’t covered!

FAQs

HOW DO I GET THERE? If you are driving, there is plenty of parking available at the track or on surrounding streets. If you are catching the train, Sandown Park station is close to the entrance of the racetrack gates. The station is located on the Cranbourne and Dandenong/Pakenham lines and take around 40 minutes travel time from Flinders Street station.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING? We will have a limited amount of protest signs available for use on the night. We encourage you to get creative and bring along your own if you can!

CAN I BRING MY GREYHOUND? For their safety and wellbeing, we ask that your dog pals be left at home. They can still get involved by posing for pictures or videos with protest signs, and they will be featured on our social media posts covering the event.

IS THIS EVENT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE? Yes, however please contact CPG if you require more information.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IF I’M UNABLE TO ATTEND IN PERSON? If you are unable to attend, we would still love you to take part! Submit a picture showing your support to be included in our event coverage! We will be going live online, so you don’t miss a thing!
