Locals have organised a petition opposing the proposed harness and greyhound racing track in Latrobe, Tasmania.
They can’t see how the “track will benefit the community in any way”. The Tasmanian government is providing $8m in funding for the unwanted track.
In 2020, 10 greyhounds were killed and 230 were injured on Tasmania’s dog racing tracks. As at late November 2021, there have been 330 injuries and eight deaths on Tasmanian tracks.
Increasingly, Tasmanians are asking questions about the huge amount of funding Tasracing receives from the Government. Particularly when there are a string of issues facing Tasracing and the Tasmanian Office of Racing Integrity.

The Tasmanian racing industry receives a minimum of $27m a year, regardless of performance. The industry is seen by many as a black hole for greyhounds, gamblers and taxpayer money.
