Greyhound’s screams shock children

The latest incident of barbaric cruelty to greyhounds has been played out before the eyes of children.

Easter Sunday at the Nowra NSW track saw greyhound Spring Honour fall violently near the finish line in Race 4 on 20 April 2025.

Suffering a fractured humerus, his screams could be heard on the race video.

The horrific scenes were distressing to the small crowd. A mother reached out to shield her child, while another young girl turned her back on the carnage. Two women put their hands to their face.

Spring Honour was given a 90-day stand-down, but of course is in danger of being killed away from the track. The latest quarterly injury report by GWIC showed a record 15 greyhounds were euthanased by private vets after suffering serious racing injuries.

Despite GRNSW CEO Steve Griffin promising transparency, the race video has been removed from the GRNSW website .The head-on view was never shown.

The Shoalhaven Greyhound Racing Club describes the Nowra track as a “family-friendly venue”.
