End greyhound suffering

While Racing & Wagering WA (RWWA) and Greyhounds WA celebrate the official opening of the new Cannington greyhound track on the night of the Perth Cup (23 April 2016), the ever-increasing number of people strongly opposed to greyhound racing will stage a historic first-ever protest outside the gates of a WA greyhound racetrack. Here’s why they are rallying:
Yesterday, the live baiters of the greyhound racing industry received heartening news – stringing up helpless piglets, chickens and rabbits for them to be mauled to death and suffer an agonising, slow death in sheer terror is punishable by a mere $5,000 fine (as reported in this video).
In line with recommendations from the MacSporran Report, Racing Queensland has proposed to increase the cost of the registration of a breeding female greyhound from $250 to $1200. The additional $950 will be diverted to greyhound rehoming and welfare initiatives. We were pretty surprised to see this response from the industry: so surprised, in fact, that we had to blog about it because a Facebook post just ain’t gonna cut it this time.
This post is long overdue, but as they say better late than never! Brisbane was proud to host the largest Shut It Down rally in the country, with Queensland Police officers estimating the crowd at South Bank on Feb 7 to be about 700 people.
