Week of carnage claims greyhound lives on VIC tracks

A horror week has claimed three young greyhounds on Victorian tracks and maimed dozens of others.

Three dogs died on 7 May 2025:

Bendigo:  Hellboy and Axedale Queen collided in Race 5 and fell. Hellboy suffered a fractured tibia and fibula, Axedale Queen a fractured radius/ulna. Both were killed after the race. Hellboy had survived 101 previous races, and was four years old; Axedale Queen was only two.

Ballarat: Two-year-old Marais Bale fell in Race 13, suffered a fractured radius/ulna, and was killed.

Marais Bale was killed in Race 13, one of the extra races introduced by Greyhound Racing Victoria to make more money to pay for their financial mismanagement. Usually, meetings have a maximum of 12 races.

In total, 78 dogs were injured for the week 4-10 May 2025. 14 of these were major injuries, including four leg fractures.

Tinker Lee collapsed after her trial, returning to the track after suffering “multiple spike wounds” in her previous race.

10 dogs were injured at Warragul on 6 May (with four serious injuries), with 8 injured at Shepparton on 8 May (with one leg fracture).

VIC racing minister Anthony Carbines is a strong supporter of this dog-killing industry.
