Image shows two-year-old Dynamize with his mouth gaping in pain as he tries to take the weight off his broken foreleg. Dynamize had suffered a fractured tibia and was killed by the on-track industry vet.
Nine greyhounds were killed at the track during April 2025 including a veteran of nearly five years old who lost his life after being forced to race 120 times, and an impossibly young pup of just 16 months old.
A further seven greyhounds who suffered fractures racing were killed in the days following, including another veteran who had won his owner/trainer over $72,000 in a 104 start “career” but who was listed as “deceased” a mere two days after his last race.
On April 4 at Bendigo, Victoria, two year old Dynamize faltered in the back straight. He is seen in the race video pulling up, his mouth gaping in pain as he tries to take the weight off his broken foreleg by awkwardly sitting down. He had fractured his right tibia and was killed by the industry vet soon after his race. Dynamize’s two race “career” had lasted a mere nine days. The track was inspected by stewards after the race and deemed “suitable for racing”.
Two-year-old Our Country Boy collided with multiple other greyhounds and fell on a turn in race 10 at Temora, NSW, on April 9. Greyhound Racing NSW has not uploaded the race video. Our Country Boy had suffered excruciating multiple compound fractures of his foreleg. He was killed by the on-track industry vet not long after his race. Our Country Boy was two days from turning three.
The same day in Rockhampton, Queensland, Tanned And Taut fell on the back straight and “failed to finish”. He was the favourite and the heaviest greyhound in race 1 and his fall has been edited out of the race video uploaded by Racing Queensland. Tanned And Taut shattered his foreleg. The stewards report states he suffered “multiple complete fractures of his radius and ulna”. In the truncated race video the commentator can be heard calling it a “messy, messy race”. Tanned And Taut was a heartbreakingly young 16 months. It was only his second race. He was killed by the on-track vet.
On April 17 at Mandurah, Western Australia, two year old Yunderup Hook had his heels galloped on and fell at the first turn. His fall is captured on the race video. He flips helplessly at speed along the track and “fails to finish”. Yunderup Hook fractured his left radius and ulna. He was killed by the industry vet at the track.
On April 26 at Taree, NSW’s newly refurbished and so-called “safest” track, three year old Escape Panama had his heels galloped on and fell at the first turn. His fall is captured on the race video and in it he fractured his near-side radius and ulna. Escape Panama was killed by the on track vet soon after. Despite being nearly three and a half, Escape Panama had only begun racing in January 2025 with only nine starts to his “career”.
The same day at Angle Park in South Australia, Clifton Hill, just two days off his fourth birthday, “lost ground” on the home turn in race 2. He was found to have suffered an excruciating comminuted femoral fracture to his left hindleg. Once again, the industry has chosen to dispense with transparency and not upload the race video. Clifton Hill was killed by the industry vet after the race.
The very next day at Albion Park Queensland veteran greyhound Contract was severely checked and fell seconds after the start of his 120th race. He was the heaviest greyhound in race 11. The stewards report, in true Queensland style, lists his injury merely as an “injury to the off side hindlimb”. It must have been serious as Contract was despatched by the on-track vet soon after. Contract had won his owner/trainer over $80,000 in prizemoney and was three months off turning five years old.
On April 30 at rural Gunnedah NSW another veteran greyhound Billy Bush ran third before falling in the catching pen and suffering a spinal injury. The race video shows him being loaded into the starting boxes before his race. Billy Bush appears to have pronounced balding of the fur on his thighs, usually associated with sleeping on hard surfaces like concrete or often as a stress response. Billy Bush had been forced to race 63 times. He was killed by the on-track industry vet.
The same day at Darwin in NT two year old Seahorn collided with other runners in race 6. She had fractured a hind metatarsal bone. In other words, a toe. She kept running and came 5th. Seahorn’s owner/trainer had her killed at the track, all for a broken toe. Seahorn had been raced only three days previously.
The greyhounds who "don't count" as track deaths
At least a further seven greyhounds who were injured racing in April are now listed as “deceased” in the industry databases. All these greyhounds were reported as being given a 90 day stand-down period. None were deemed worthy of rehabilitation.
All were killed a matter of days after sustaining their fractures. Because they were not technically killed at the track on the day of their race, they don’t “technically” count as track deaths. How convenient for the industry’s “image”.
On April 3, two-year-old Princess Josie broke her hock in race 7 at Muswellbrook, NSW. On April 8 the eTrac database was updated to show her as “deceased (euth-injury)”.
At Taree track (according to the industry the “safest” track in NSW) on April 12, three year old Zipping Hoff fractured his hock. Two days later he was entered into eTrac as “deceased (euth-injury)”.
On April 14 at Albion Park in Queensland five year old Cha Cha Zac fractured his hock. He had raced 104 times and won over $72,000 for his owner/trainer. On April 16 his status in the database was updated to “deceased (euth-injury)”.
Four year old Spring Honour broke his right humerus at Nowra, NSW on April 20. Four days later he was listed as “deceased (euth-injury)” in eTrac. He had raced 84 times and won his owner/trainer over $91,000 but it wasn’t enough to save him.
On the same day in Rockhampton Queensland four year old Cheers suffered a “right hind” injury while running in a “masters” race. He is now listed in the Fasttrack database as “retired (deceased)” but listed in eTrac as still racing.
On April 23 three year old Normal Life fractured her left hock during race 9 at Sale in Victoria. She was listed as “deceased (euth-injury)” in eTrac on April 28.
Two days later at Warragul Victoria Mr. Bronson, not yet two, fractured his right hock in race 5. Exactly one week later he was listed as “deceased (euth-injury)”.
