The Melbourne Greyhound Racing Association was keen to expose children to animal abuse and gambling at The Meadows for “Melbourne Cup Eve” on 4 November.
The club said their big night had a “big focus on children. It’s all about free entertainment, centred around their favourite friends – the greyhounds.”
It’s also all about Sportsbet as the official wagering partner.
There were 300 free showbags for the kids. We doubt the showbags told the children what happens to their “favourite friends”.
Since 2020 13 greyhounds have been killed on The Meadows track. More than 1,300 have been injured; many of these would subsequently died from their injuries.
This year the kids would have been treated to seeing two-year-old Morton having a bad fall at the start of Race 8.
