At least the kids won’t see another decapitated greyhound

The “hugely popular” dogs and horse racing event Tricodes on January 28 will not feature any greyhounds, much to the dismay of the Cranbourne Greyhound Racing Club.

Due to “unplanned mechanical works that need to be done to fix the greyhound rail infrastructure,” greyhound racing has been cancelled at Cranbourne.

The Greyhound Recorder and Star News have reported on the racing club’s announcement.

They did not explain the cause of the “unplanned” repairs. On January 8, Krakatoa was killed in Race 4 by the lure system.

The unlucky dog hit the failing lure, nearly snapped it, and then ran into the rail, according to information provided to CPG.

Krakatoa was almost decapitated.

Because of this, more than two weeks later, racing is postponed while the infrastructure is still being fixed.

The Tricodes event will nonetheless be “a terrific evening of family entertainment,” so don’t worry. Children are free.

What if Krakatoa had met his horrifying end in front of the children?

In addition to killing dogs, the racing industry doesn’t appear to give much thought to the welfare of young people.

At least 18 dogs were killed while racing at Cranbourne in 2020–2021, and 746 were hurt.
